Cozumel - February 9 - 16, 2002

Now this is what we call fun. Three Carnaval parades and parties, A Travelnotes BBQ, visiting close friends on the Isla, and 5 days of wonderful blue water diving.

We did things a little different on this trip. No charter package, and we took advantage of our time share. We stayed at the Coral Princess in the Norte Zona Hotelera. Our favorite restaurant, Manati, was closed, so, we ate at the hotel most of the time.

All land pictures taken with Canon EOS 650 w/28-80mm lens and either Fuji 200 or Kodak Max Gold 400.

Gary's U/W pics taken with Nikonos V w/35mm lens and Sea & Sea 16mm adapter, and two Nikonos SB105 strobes, using either Fuji 100 or 200.

Mel's U/W pics taken with Sea & Sea MX-10 w/YS40a strobe using Kodak Max Gold 400.

Anyway, on with the pictures.

Palancar Gardens - 2/10/2002

This was the first of the two tanks with the travelnote's group. FTL, Achu, Gregg, Tut, Alan, Melanie and myself all on a chartered (with Christina)  boat for a day of diving and fun. It was pouring when we drove down to the caleta, and it was still sprinkling when we cast off. By the time we got to the reef, the rain had stopped, and the water was as smooth as I'd ever seen it. We had a great first dive, with a long surface interval and lunch. Freshly made guacamole, yummy tuna salad, ham and cheese, and some of the wonderful bread that can only come from Cozumel. After lunch, we headed to our second site, and again, it was a wonderful dive.

Gary's photo's: Geez... nobody told me to not get my film developed in Coz. The pics I took from the first day of diving with the new camera just didn't come out the way they were supposed to. Had the f-stop closed way too much. I've got a friend trying to salvage what he can, but it doesn't look good. At least I used the results to help the "learning curve"....

Gary's photo's: what can I say... It's a new camera, and I didn't thread the film correctly, but if I had, you would have seen two nice splendid toadfish shot's and about a 5 foot southern stingray.

Santa Rosa - 2/12/2002 and 2/13/2002

Due to a mix-up with our dive op, Michelle's, and some very stubborn divers that wouldn't consider another site, we ended up repeating these two dives on subsequent days. I only dove on the first day, and when we got back to Pro-Dive pier, we went to the dive shop. I told Bob that I was not a happy camper, and explained the situation. Bob said that they shouldn't have taken us there and offered to make it up to us by giving us an extra day of diving. I would recommend Michelle's to anybody that asks me. Thanks Bob.

On our way to the playa, we were greeted by some fellow mammals. This was a real thrill, since we've only seen dolphins breaching when we were on shore. Oh, but what a time to realize that you left your snorkel in your dive bag in the hotel room. I jumped in with Mel's camera, my mask half on, and my fins under my arm.
